In September and October of 1998, I was engaged in a debate on the KOF List with a fellow Keeper of the Flame on the subject of abortion. He contended that we ought to view the issue pragmatically, and stop arguing for a total ban on abortion. At the very minimum, he argued, abortion should be legal from conception up to the tenth week of gestation. Of course, this position was completely at odds with what the Ascended Masters have said on the subject. And the only reason that I could think of that a Keeper of the Flame would advocate such a position was because of a condition of gross ignorance as to what the Masters have actually said on the subject. It was at that point, that I determined to compile everything the Ascended Masters have said on the subject, so that no Keeper of the Flame would ever reside in such a state of ignorance again.

      Because that debate served as the impetus for this project, I have saved all the documents related to it, and provide them here as a supplemental resource for those who have an interest in such historical background information.

      In service to the goal, then, that no Keeper of the Flame would ever again reside in such a state of ignorance concerning what the Masters have said on the subject of abortion, and with some strategic assistance from other Keepers of the Flame, I have worked on this project on and off for the past four years. I would like to publically thank staff member Edward Anderson for doing the first search (this was back in 1998) on the Pearls CD-ROM, and for providing me with a list of the search results (through 1996). This list enabled me to get right to work utilizing my existing library of Pearls of Wisdom. I believe that I had in hand 75 out of the 115 pearls in Edward's list. I read each one, located the abortion quotes and transcribed them by hand. Many of the pearls that I did not have in my library were supplied to me by Judy Mitchell whom I would like to thank here as well. And others that Judy did not have were supplied to me via email by Matthew Erwin, who took the text of about ten pearls directly from the Pearls CD-ROM. I would like to thank staff member Peter Duffy for his assistance in locating a copy of a very important statement by Archangel Uriel, that was published only in pamphlet form. Finally, with the advent of the Pearls Online service, I was able to acquire the text of those pearls containing abortion quotes in the years 1997 through 2000, making the text acquistion phase nearly complete. I would like to thank all of those at headquarters who have made, and continue to make, the Pearls Online available.

     In a survey of the published dictations, then, of the Ascended Masters, from 1958 through the year 2000, I have determined that the Ascended Masters have spoken, through their Messengers Mark and Elizabeth Prophet, on the issue of abortion at least 127 times. I say "at least", because this compilation includes only published statements found predominantly in the Pearls of Wisdom, wherein, from what I understand, only a small (or medium sized?) percentage of the Master's dictations have so far been published (as of 2002). In all likelihood there are many more statements on abortion to be found within the unpublished dictations.

     In fact, in a dictation given February 26, 1977, in Pasadena, California, the Ascended Master Lanello said, "I ask staff members to join with the students to put together all the comments of the Masters and the Messengers on abortion, to assemble them, to edit them and to determine their accuracy so that a book can be printed with this message." (Pearls of Wisdom, Vol. 43 No. 22)

     I take this to mean, that as of February 1977, there was enough material already given to make up a book on the subject. But as far as published dictations go, we find only nine (9), from 1958 to 1977, that have a reference to abortion. Only

      How important is the abortion issue? Would we take the word of Elohim as to the importance of the abortion issue? The Elohim Peace and Aloha, in a dictation given June 10, 1984, said that abortion is "the most pressing problem of our time. It is the most pressing problem of our time because it is the greatest single act that causes the greatest karma to the individual and to nations!" (Pearls of Wisdom, Vol. 32, No. 14, p. 150)

     At any rate, as we become aware of these additional statements, they will be added to the index.

     Out of the known published statements, we can say that fifty-one (51) individual Ascended Masters have addressed the issue, and several Masters have addressed the issue more than once. For example, St. Germain has addressed the issue 13 times within this time frame (1958 to 2000), and Mother Mary 13 times as well. You will find a table below which lists the Ascended Masters who have spoken on the issue in the order their statements appeared, showing the number of times each of them have spoken on the subject.

     Each of the 127 individual statements made by each of these Masters during this time frame are referenced in the main index tables which follow. Each reference will ultimately include a link that will take the reader to the actual text of the statement. These links will be added to the index tables as the text is formatted for presentation (which is a work in progress).

     The main index tables include the Pearl Volume and Number, the name of the Master, and the date the statement was published in the Pearls of Wisdom. In the "Status" field you will see either a "read" button, which is self-explanatory, or the word "have", which means we have the text, but it is not yet formatted for display. We are working on it. I am happy to say that we "have" the text for all 127 statements identified so far.

     Any publication date which is shown in italics indicates that the indicated date refers to the date the dictation was actually delivered, rather than the publication date. Any item shown against a gray background indicates a previously unpublished dictation that is, in terms of its delivery date, chronologically out of order.

      One statement is displayed per page. At the bottom of each statement you will find a previous/next link that will take you to the previous or the next statement in (published) chronological order. For those Masters who have made more than one statement on the subject, you will find an additional previous/next link that will take you to the last statement made by that Master on the issue, or the next statement made by that Master.

     In many cases, where appropriate, the quotes are presented in context. Which is to say, where a portion of preceeding text sheds substantial light on the main quote, that preceeding context is included. In like manner, where a portion of subsequent text sheds light on the main quote, that subsequent context is included. But where there is context included, it is displayed in a box above, and below, the main quote, enabling the reader, if the reader so desires, to go directly to the main quote without having to wade through the context.
