Helps to reinforce the concept that organized religion really is a crutch for the weak minded. Once again, politics is put ahead of the family.

This was one of the most beautiful and compelling arguments for honoring the principle of freedom upon which our nation is founded that I have ever read. I pray that Elian will be allowed to remain in freedom and that he will not be returned to Cuba and its totalitarian dictatorship. If he ever returns to Cuba, let it be as a man grown, and as a saviour, not a helpless victim.

I appreciate that you have a position on the Cuban boy. It is my opinion that you made many statements and then felt that the fact that you made the statement in turn made the statement fact. This paper was probably written with good intentions. It would have made one side of a good debate. I am one of the unfortunate people who likes to hear pros and cons of an issue. However well written an appeal to the emotions may be, it always rings a little bell of caution in the back of my mind when only one side of an issue is addressed, and that one side with emotion more than fact. It always makes me wonder if facts won't stand up under the scrutiny of the readers, when when only a one sided view is presented. Respectfully, Seek James Justice

It is onesided. Opinionated. Incorrected and biased. It would be a nice piece of writing otherwise or perhaps if I didn't have my eyes open to just who did pull elian out of the ocean...namely members of his family WHO were looking for him and his mother.

You mention all types of stuff about castro and so on...but we as americans have one thing we are all well known for....RIGHTS FOR THE FAMILY. We holler about family values. We scream about the rights of american fathers for their children. Yet not once has any one said anything about the kid's father.

You forgot to mention that elian comes from a wealthy family. That kid is not starving in cuba.
