Most people have been completely bamboozled by Attorney General Reno's assertion that the law requires that Elian be returned to his father in Communist Cuba. They think she ought to know what she's talking about because she's the Attorney General. Right? Wrong. Here is an example of a government bureaucrat so intent on reading her own sentimentality (and subconsciousness love for Leftist Authoritarianism, aka Mandatory Socialism, aka Communism) into the law that she has become completely blind to the fact that the law is completely, irrevocably, and unquestionably on Elian's side, and that Elian will prevail. Attorney General Reno is going to be really embarrassed when she loses this court case. Then maybe the Clinton administration will finally start to take seriously the call for her resignation. I mean the call on the law in this case isn't even close. Elian wins, and he wins by a mile.

My counsel to the rest of you, is don't get blind sided by your naive assumption that someone who has an army of lawyers advising them, knows what they are talking about. Read the law for yourself and save yourself that embarrassment!

The U.S. Code is available on line, and there is no excuse for any of you not to come to an easy and quick conclusion that Attorney General Reno is nearly senile when it comes to her assertion that the law requires Elian's return to Communist Cuba.

In the summer time, the lid of the mayonnaise jar floats upside down on the surface of Lake Superior. It is driven by the currents, and quite a variety of scenery passes by on a given day. But that doesn't matter. Why? Because the pill bug can't see over the rim of the lid.

As far as this terrestrial isopod is concerned, his world is made up entirely of the damp cardboard under his feet, and the continuous, uninterrupted circular wall of the inside of the lid, and of course, the various and sundry things that the wind blows in from time to time, some of them of a rather frightening nature. Dragon flies are the worst. Though most of the time Mr. Armadillidium Vulgare is secure against almost any threat, as long as he has enough time to roll himself up into a tight little armored ball, which he can do very quickly, though not instantaneously. Now, even if this means that he might spend a large amount of his time just rolling around on the deck, that doesn't matter either, because inside he's safe, and that's what matters most. Nothing can get in, not even light. And that's never struck him as anything unusual, because a pill bug can't miss what a pill bug has never known.

Though when it's safe to emerge, he's not without the desire to stretch his microscopic mind, and in this regard, much is made of the spiral grooves in the walls, which form an important part of his religion. Still shiny in some places, but definitely showing some rust in others.

Where the grooves ultimately come from, or where they will ultimately go, is a subject of much debate inside of his tiny little mind. But he doesn't appear to have any of the facilities that one might deem necessary to find out for sure. He has no wings like some bugs do, lady bugs for example have wings. But he is not a lady bug. He is a pill bug, a terrestrial isopod. And he has never thought to go out on an exploratory expedition, something that might seem a very obvious thought to have, especially for a bug with seven pairs of legs, and a total of 14 feet. I mean, getting tired shouldn't be a problem. But these feet don't have toes that stick to the walls of a tin lid like some bugs have; ants for example have such toes. But he is not an ant. Mr. A.V. is a pill bug, a terrestrial isopod by birth, whose lifestyle does not admit of a need for vertical traction. I mean, what use are wings to an earthworm? They would offer a way to get cooked in the hot sun, and dried to a crisp by the soft breezes that most of us, as humans enjoy. And so, for a pill bug, vertical traction is equally counterproductive. Vertical traction would actually take him away from his dinner which is always served up by little armies of bacteria which break down the organic matter beneath his feet into tiny bite size pieces. The fact that his cuisine is now limited to the damp cardboard of the lid liner is only a minor inconvenience. Not enough to ignite any kind of thought process that would lead to an escape from his currently confining quarters.

The only way he will ever escape this little world is if a wave turns the lid over, and he gets washed into the lake. And he might just be ok because a pill bug won't sink, and his chance of being washed up on shore is just about as good as providing a miniature meal for a low flying gull, or perhaps a bull frog lurking in the reeds near the shore.

But now it's time for a revelation. A human being is not a pill bug. The spiritual soul, which currently occupies the tin lid of the intellect, is capable of transcendent discovery. But first, the tendency to roll oneself up inside of the little armored ball of ignorance must be stiff-armed at every opportunity in the best tradition of hall- of-fame running backs. And only then will we begin to see that ripples of learning extend out in a circular fashion from a single point of interest or curiosity.

And that's the point. One can never hope to achieve any kind of traction into the transcendent until one seeks out information around the entire circumference of each of the multiple circles of knowledge that are ever widening in diameter and ever expanding in content. Just by sitting still and doing nothing, one is losing ground to the widening circles of learning which are always trying to draw the attention of the soul out of the ever shrinking thimble of self-absorption.

And therefore any work that endeavors to provide information on each of the 360 degrees of the circle is worthy of the attention of all who seek to expand their realization of truth. And that's why, if you really desire to get a handle on what the controversy is really all about in regards to Elian Gonzalez, you cannot go wrong in giving your undivided attention to the following article, which covers ground, in a balanced and uniform manner, outside the securely contrived, and Communist Party approved enclosure of "family values." And I would just add this. As honorary members of the human race, we all have an obligation and a duty to make an extraordinary effort to push back the walls that confine our thought processes.

You say that the Ten Commandments are "out of context" in public schools, i.e everywhere except in a history classroom. Now, if the people of America could be pursuaded that this assertion is true, I can assure you that the day will come when the best days of America will in like manner be found only in the history texts studied in those history classrooms.

There is a disease of the mind that has reached epidemic proportions among those who participate in the orgy of elitist sophistication and politcal correctness that we see outplayed before us in the mass media. It is called contextual deprivation, and one of the most signficant symptoms is the corruption of the organ of common sense.

More precisely, contextual deprivation is characterized by stunted growth in the area of contextual frameworks, sort of a case of dwarfism when it comes to the capacity of the mind to grasp, and bring onto the work bench of the intellect the many objects of relevence that populate a universe that is, by all accounts, infinite in scope.

This stunted growth in the area of contextual frameworks is caused by the root pathology of human error, especially in its emotional dimension, in terms of the desire of the carnal mind to remain in the all-too-familiar and therefor comfortable darkness of material/mortal ignorance. The organ of common sense, designed to expand in step with the Mind of God, is thereby laced and impregnated through and through with threads of a steel-like mesh which has the effect of corraling thought, and keeping it penned inside the enclosure of human pride. Now, it is this pride without foundation that is the essential character of material/mortal man who walks around like a peacock, who has color and plumage, without any realization that it has no conception of how to create color and plummage, and no conception of where that color and plummage came from.

It has been said, and rightfully so, that the earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof. The mind that produced that thought-form had a healthy contextual framework. And thanks to the effort of that soul to maintain a healthly organ of common sense, we have today a useful and practical object, plucked from the greater context of objective reality, to place upon the workbench of the intellect to provide a guide for the proper ordering of thought processes in the present.

And to that we can add the equally valid observation that the American Republic was created by God to fulfill his purpose and plan. And therefore, when you have the proper context, the purposes, plans, and the very will of God, is the only valid context. In other words, it is the only contextual framework that can be placed upon the workbench of the intellect, from which the soul can draw conclusions that will produce the fruit of the abundance life, and peace and harmony in all relationships.

Who could argue against the proposition that if God's Will can be known, it would be wise to incorporate that knowledge into the development of all contextual frameworks? The Will of God can be known. In fact, because the purpose of life requires the harmonization of man's will with God's Will, it must follow inexorably that the Divine Plan must make explicit provision for the Will of God to be made known to man. If man shows an interest, and a willingness to come into alignment with God's Will, that Will is made known to man in ever increasing increments of clarity.

Now, this is an important principle. The barrier of darkness that surrounds the soul can be made translucent through devotion. The outlines of God's Will begins to show through that translusence, not in clear details, but in general forms, as one might imagine perceiving any scene of concrete reality through a piece of glass whose surface has been roughed up, for example through sand blasting. As the soul perceives these outlines, and makes the conscious choice to bring its life into a general alignment with them, the barrier of darkness becomes incrementally more clear, and the outline of God's Will becomes incrementally more detailed.

This describes a process of transcendence that spans many years, i.e. for a devoted soul, a process that is unknown, that cannot be known by the soul who has not made any effort to nuture and expand that dimension of its native identity that plays the all important devotional role.

Those who have devoted themselves to another path of self fulfillment, that of becoming a member of the power elite in every field of human endevour, will argue that the Will of God cannot be known. These are the fallen angels whose status in society is predicated on the amount of worldly power and prestige they can accumulate. From their positions of power, they sow the seeds of contextual deprivation, programming the desire natures of the Children of God to desire their way of life, to live within their game plan, to adopt their ideas of what is right and what is wrong, what will be defined as success, and what will be defined as failure. And they tell the people that prayer in public school is destructive, that Christmas decorations are wrong, that displaying the ten commandments is wrong, but homosexuals are to be treated with great reverence. And there is a certain logic to this. Homosexuality represents one of the most audacious expressions of rebellion against the plans and purposes of God, going right to the very heart of the material culture itself with the challenging of the defintion of marriage, and if the elites respect anything, it is the quality of rebellion. In this respect homosexuals represent sort of the mascots of the power elite who feel such joy and happiness when they can make the children of God swallow ever increasing corruptions of God's Plan for this nation.

Your heart beats because God desires it. Therefore, stretch your mind just a little bit, and ponder the possibility that the collective heart of America beats only because God desires it. And it is the heart of that nation that defines it as the only nation to champion liberty for the entire planet. And America has played that role, not because of the will of man, but because of the union of the will of man with the Will of God.

For the Children of God, the Will of God is the only force that is able to illuminate and empower our culture. If there is healing to be had, if there are great accomplishments to be made, it will be done by the power of the Divine Will, and by no other.

Therefore, with all of this in mind, we observe that incorporting voluntary school prayer and the ten commandments into the education of every child is an important part of God's plan for America. Why? America is tasked with the sacred duty, obligation, and mission to become a leader among all the nations of the earth, in demonstrating how the reality and institutions of heaven can be anchored in the physical world.

For this goal to be achieved, Love for our Creator God, must become, and will become, universal. This is what the Age of Aquarius is all about, where the culture will transcend its self- centered sex based conception of love, into a collective awarness of the soul's love for the God that created it, for the God who continually nurtures it, for the God who has plans for it, for the God who stands ever ready to restore the soul to the divne estate from whence it fell so long ago.

The highest and most innocent and pure form of love currently recognized by the collective consciousness of the people is the love of the child for the father and the mother, and the parents for the children, and perhaps brothers for sisters, and the various other family related love ties, all of which become ever more self-serving, used as props for the ego, as one departs further and further from the innocent child stage.

While these ties will remain important, the tie between the individual soul and God in the present tense will be raised into prominence, where the soul's love and gratitude for God will become the universal meeting place of minds, the common ground that will finally allow the Children of God to set aside their differences, sublimating their individual interests to a common perception of what is important to the God who created them, each and every one. It is Love for God only that has the power to transcend all differences which men have with one another over doctrinal details. When Americans find themselves saying, "God's plan for America is too important for it to be damaged, delayed, or otherwise marred over this trivial disagreement," only then will America be on the right track.

And therefore, any point of view that perceives the ten commandments to be out of context in our public schools, is by definition on the wrong track. When you talk about the proper context, God's purpose and plan is the only context that can produce the fruit of victory for this nation.

The Aquarian goal will never be achieved if God's Children, in a fog of spineless confusion, allow Atheists, Agnostics, and secularists to control the agenda. Spine, in this instance, means a sense of God's purpose and plan so strong within the minds of men --- the walls of darkness made translucent through devotion allowing the proper contextual objects to be place firmly on the workbench of the intellect --- that they will not allow that plan to be pushed aside by the vain and petty objections of those who stubbornly cling to their microscopic mindsets.

Reasoning from within this condition of contextual deprivation, Mr. O'Reilly casts about for a reason to justify his exclusion of the ten commandments from public school classrooms. After all, it is important to mask the fact of contextual deprivation with the illusion of rationality. To this end he says, "the system is set up to protect minority rights."

God desires that his children have liberty, to freely exercise their religious beliefs, and to be able to freely speak their minds. Why? To provide a playground for rebels? No. The only way for truth to triumph is for freedom to reign. Therefore, Freedom in a political sense is an outgrowth of God's purpose. Liberty in America has survived only because a majority of Americans, have a deep faith that God desires it, and for no other reason.

Take God out of the equation, take that faith out of the equation, and you will surely get some form of totalitarianism, be it fascism, communism or total anarchy which gives rise to a warlord society. I believe the history of China is a good example of this. Put God into the equation, and only then do you achieve the critical mass of courage necessary to maintain the condition of freedom, which requires, as we have seen throughout history, the selfless sacrifice of enough people to secure the liberty of the whole.

It is true that the sun shines on both the just and the unjust, in as much as those who cherish God's purpose, and those who do not, both are guarenteed the freedom to believe, to worship, or to speak what is on their minds.

But to say that "the system" was established to protect minority rights, is completely wrong. The system was established to enable God's Children to fullfill God's purpose.

The fact that Atheists, Agnostics, and secularists enjoy the same freedoms which all of God's Children enjoy, is a secondary effect of the system of Liberty that God set up, through willing hearts, to fulfill his plans and purposes. This sensitivity to the emotional comfort of Atheists, Agnositcs, and Secularists, was never a primary founding principle.

And along the same lines, it was never a part of God's plan and purpose for his Children to abandon their divinely inspired educational goals for America's youth, in terms of teaching them, and reminding them on every occassion of their divine origin, simply because the godless worldview of a minority of Atheists, Agnostics, and secularists is offended by the mention of God's name in public.

The captain of the ship of state is supposed to be the collective conscience of the people, given the form of policy and law through established democratic processes, all of which are ruled by the principle of majority rule. Only the captain has control of the helm. The people are duty bound by all principles of citizenship to accept the destination set by this captain. To allow a small group to rebel against the collective will, and to shipwreck the whole, approaches the definition of political insanity.

And so it is, that in their confusion, the Children of God have allowed the Atheististic, Agnostic, and Secularist denial of God's plan for America, to be fashioned into public policy by the U.S. Federal Court system in contradistinction to what the Constitution allows. This was a fatal mistake, and national fatality will be the fruit of it, if it is not corrected.

Therefore, this is not simply a philosophical debate. Where our nation comes out on this question has to do with the survial of the American identity as the premier champion of liberty for all peoples, all cultures, all nations.

Because, if we deny the idea that God has a plan and purpose for America, then we deny the identity of America. If we deny the idea that God has a plan and purpose for America, we deny her reason for being. If we deny these things, we deny the prospect of Liberty for future generations. How is that so? God's continued intercession in the affairs of this nation depends on the free will of the people. If that will is turned against God, he must draw back, and allow events to take their course without any steadying and guiding input on his part. Therefore, pushing God out of the equation is the surest form of national suicide, i.e. spelling the death of the core of our national identity which is composed of principle primarily, and geography only secondarily.

Let us not be so dim witted as to entertain the idea that there are no consequences associated with the denial of God's plan and purpose. God has put a tremendous amount of effort into sustaining Liberty in America. If all of that effort is turned to the purpose of destroying any and all prospect of acheiving the results he intends, God will not continue to throw good money after bad as it were, but at a particular point he will choose to cut his losses, pull the plug, and the whole thing will collapse, and the future inhabinants of this land will live under a form of government that does not reflect any amount of divine intercession. We have examples of those types of governments before us today. They are called totalitarian police states where the whims of those who hold power are the only law and the only justice the people know.

Today, America is like a champion show dog with fleas. The fleas are in control. The flees are setting the agenda. That's not right. And from a galactic perspective that would be almost laughable if it did not portend so much suffering for future generations.

He is emphatic about the fact that these dolphins protected him from the sharks while using their snouts to push him closer to our U.S. shores." [All this to make sure that Elian is delivered back into the clutch of an Atheistic dictator? We don't think so.]

Trade with China pours wealth into the treasury of a Communist Government making it stronger, not weaker, thereby emboldening the Communists in their belief that the Party will live on forever. This is not a good thing. This is a bad thing.

    Billions and billions of dollars of hard currency earnings from Chinese exports to the United States allows the Communists to provide phenomenal monetary rewards to the upper echelon of the Communist leadership, ensuring loyalty to a degree never before possible. This is not a good thing. This is a bad thing.

    Billions and billions of dollars of hard currency earnings from Chinese exports to the United States allows the Communists to purchase newer and more destructive high-technology weapon systems which are used to a) keep the Chinese and Tibetan people under the boot of oppression, b) to transport that boot of oppression to the island nation of Taiwan, and c) to sweep aside any American military forces that might come to the aid of Taiwan. This is not a good thing. This is a bad thing.

    Moreover, the average Chinese worker who receives the benefit of a more affluent lifestyle, will be far less likely to challenge the status quo, finding more reasons to leave the Communists in power. What this means is that free trade with a Communist nation works to dilute the resolve of the oppressed to stand in defense of principle. This is not a good thing. This is a bad thing.

    All of this will make it harder, not easier, for the freedom- loving peoples of China to overturn the Communist dictatorship. Therefore, the belief that trade with China will bring about an accelerated movement toward democratic reforms is a delusion. That delusion is born of greed.

    It is no more, and no less, than a rationalization concocted to justify the burning greed in the bowels of the corporate community. They have only one solid, tangible, and irrefutable reason to support open trade ties with Communist China. Open trade ties are certain to mean more money in their already bulging wallets. All the rest of it is a futile and desperate attempt to hang onto whatever amount of self-respect they have left, after having sold out the cause of freedom for cold cash.

    Therefore, for the average American who now understands this, but who continues to buy products made in Communist China, those Americans will be making a statement of support, with each purchase, for the continued enslavement of the Chinese people under Communism. Each purchase decision, and the statement of support for the enslavement of the Chinese people it represents, is composed of the following eight points:

• 1) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have freedom of religion. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need freedom of religion."

• 2) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have freedom of speech. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need freedom of speech."

• 3) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have freedom of assembly. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need freedom of assembly."

• 4) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have the freedom to seek redress of grievances concerning the wrong-doing of government officials. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need the freedom to seek redress of grievances concerning the wrong-doing of government officials."

• 5) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have the freedom to choose the best people to serve in their government. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need the freedom to choose the best people to serve in their government."

• 6) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have the freedom to choose the people who will determine what their children will be taught in school. I need this gadget or teddy bear or whatever, more than the Chinese people need the freedom to choose the people who will determine what their children will be taught in school."

• 7) "It doesn't matter if the Chinese people don't have the freedom to choose the people who determine what public policies are pursued by their local, regional, or national government.     It is written, that there is way that seemeth right to a man, but the end thereof is death, and so it is with every decision to buy any imported bauble that originates in Communist China, the purchase of which would return hard currency to the treasury of the Communist Dictatorship. Each such purchase is a decision to turn one's back on the cause of liberty, not just in China, but within the precinct of your very own soul. That's right --- within your very own soul.

    The goal of life is to remove the barrier that exists between the soul and God. The interior of the soul ought to be flooded with the light of divine reality. But instead the soul serves as a haunted house full of (at least) the gremlins of despair and anxiety. That's not the way its supposed to be. Every decision made in support of truth and righteous principle is a step towards the dismantling of that barrier. Every decision to raise extremely short-sighted self-interest (I want that cheap teddy bear) to a position of prominence above the interests of God's plan (the freedom of the people of China), adds another layer of inky black opacity to the inside of that barrier.

    How long could a blade of grass live if it took up this habit of painting layer upon layer of black inky substance on each of its light sensitive surfaces?

    This is how civilizations are brought down, through seemingly innocuous movements away from the light of truth. At first everyone is gathered around the campfire of divinity (well, that was quite a long time ago), and one baby step away from that fire has no material effect upon the sense of warmth one feels from the blazing logs. But take a thousand baby steps away, and pretty soon you are out in the middle of the forest, it is dark, you are alone, and you are lost, and you keep falling for those temptations that lead you farther away from the campfire of divine reality.

    Make no mistake about it. Trade with Communist China will accelerate America's slide into the abyss of corruption. Every purchase of some gadget, bauble, or cute stuffed animal made in Communist China, adds another layer of opacity to the barrier between the soul and God. With these purchase decisions counted in the millions every day, the darkening of the collective mind of America is becoming ever more pronounced, leaving the course of the nation less and less illumined by divine insight. And therefore, the probability that the whole will find itself wrecked upon a jagged outcropping of some hidden reef, becomes ever greater.

It should be clear to everyone that there are minds among us that do not register the quality of spiritual peril or danger. In this respect we are reliving the very same lesson given to the people of the earth in the Genesis account of the flood. These souls can be on the very precipice of complete and total spiritual annihilation, yet with their backs turned squarely against the sun of spiritual truth, they walk, with passion and enthusiasm, into the comforting embrace of the gathering darkness. It has a familiar voice, it calls to them, they hear, and they obey.

Bill Clinton is such a soul. There simply cannot be any further doubt about this. Any and all possibility that Bill Clinton could balance the karma that he has already made in sealing the destiny of so many millions of the unborn in death has completely and irrevocably vanished. If the voice of God could reach this soul, there is only one thing that voice would say, and it would be this: "Stop the Slaughter of the Unborn -- Stop it now -- the very survival of your soul depends on it." But, the soul of Bill Clinton walks in exactly the opposite direction. He takes every possible opportunity that his position affords him to seal the destiny of these little children in death.

One might have thought that his crowning achievement in this area was his decision to open the door to the introduction of RU-486 into this nation, an act that will conservatively multiply the number of souls robbed of their life opportunity by a factor of ten. Instead of a million or so children lost to the abortionists knife each year, the number will jump into the range of ten million a year snuffed out through the application of a chemical agent. Well, in terms of shear numbers, that certainly was an achievement that no one could ever surpass. But he outdid himself in terms of the grizzliness of his insensitivity to the plight of the defenseless child when he lifted, by executive order, the ban on fetal tissue research. The depth of depravity that this represents only becomes apparent when you are confronted with the body part price lists that are now a staple of the fetal tissue research field opened up by one Bill Clinton. But if that was not enough to make Mr. Clinton sick to his own stomach, he went even further by single-handedly, with the stroke of the veto pen, blocked the good conscience of the the U.S. Congress when it overwhelmingly voted to ban partial birth abortions. If there was any capacity left in his heart for the expression of mercy for the unborn child it would have been here. All he would have had to do was to withhold his pen from the veto message. But no, there is something within him that feels at peace with the act of crushing the skull of fully formed, alive and viable child, that is not even classified as unborn when it is killed outright, because 100% of the body is out of the mother's womb, and 90% of the body is completely outside of the birth canal. The only thing that is left inside the mother is the head of the child, and that head is crushed. Why? Simply because it is too big to pass comfortbly out of the birth canal.

One must juxtapose, on the one hand, the Great Desire of God for his children to be afforded the opportunity to live, and on the other, the stubborn refusal of Bill Clinton to use even a microscopic drop of presidential power in their behalf, choosing at every opportunity that path that increases the number of aborted children. In every case, he has refused to extend the hand of mercy to these defenseless citizens, opting instead to take those actions that would generate the greatest level of political applause from the pro-abortion forces who hold the key to his political power.

Imagine the dark arrogance of this soul who can make this decision and at the same time be fully aware of the biblical admonishment, that what measure ye mete to another, it shall be measured unto you tenfold.

If Bill Clinton can be this oblivious to the peril that confronts his own soul, how in the world can he appreciate, in even the slightest degree, the mortal danger that hangs so heavily over the nation, especially in regards to the abortion issue in particular? And so, he stands before Congress assembled, and he declares, "The state of Union has never been stronger." And thunderous applause erupts from every quarter. But the fact of the matter is, that there is no person on earth who is less qualified to make that judgement, than Bill Clinton.

Reigning supreme at the center of an abyss to deep to fathom, the soul of Bill Clinton, for all intents and purposes, is lost forever. All faculties capable of registering inner spiritual direction have been self-destroyed, the heads of all inner messengers lopped off, like the prophets of old, they speak no more.

Those who hang their hopes on the sweet words that float from his lips are those that swell the ranks of the self-deceived. And this culture of self- deception --- my friends, it has a history. It began with high hopes indeed, but it did not end with any of those hopes fulfilled. Long ago, the precious standard of Truth given to these once true hearts by the very hand of God -- today, they search for it in vain. What have they done with it? Dropped it into the dust they have, far far back on a winding and twisted trail of tragic mistakes, soaked with blood, soaked with tears, a picture book of sorrows framed and bound only by the imperative to forget.

And now, in a caravan of moaning and despair, marching into a never ending twilight zone of inner desolation, their tear streaked faces touched only by the stingy breezes stirred up by the beating wings of circling vultures, they have nothing left but to follow behind a soul that's lost, a soul that's died, a soul that's become death incarnate, the enemy of angels.

This whited sepulcher does not walk by any star, but rather, he is led, as a blind man, through the motions of state by the grisly hand of death, a hand that has been extended out of the very abyss of hell itself, and into its grasp he would deliver every American.

Thank God for our Constitution, and for its wise provisions, which have brought the reign of this incarnation of darkness to an end. But lo, his apprentice follows closely behind.

The opportunity for the Court to reverse itself on the issue of school prayer is very rare. Thanks to the freedom loving citizens of Texas, such an opportunity showed up on the radar screen on November 15, 1999, when the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a case regarding the constitutionality of student-led prayer at high school football games. The title of this case is Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe, Jane.

"Santa Fe", as the case is called, will be argued and decided by June of the year 2000. We must keep the members of the U.S. Supreme Court in our prayers every single day until this case is decided. This case comes from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals which includes the State of Texas in its area of jurisdiction. The text of the March 17, 1999 Court of Appeals decision (No. 97-40150) which found the practice of student-led prayer at a high school football game unconstitutional can be read here.

The Sante Fe Independent School District petitioned the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider their decision. On April 9, 1997, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals denied the petition. One reason for the request for rehearing was that that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals departed, without explanation, from some precedents which that very same court had set in a November 24, 1992 decision that opened the door for the practice of student-initiated and student-led prayer at high school graduations. The Elian Gonzalez situation presents educators at all levels with a veritable goldmine of opportunities to illustrate important democratic principles in the context of a situation that has powerful emotional appeal.

There is no doubt about it. The Elian Gonzalez situation will become very shortly a fixture in the curriculum of every government, constitution, and civics class in every high school, college and university in America.

Explaining democracy is a lot easier when you can contrast it to its totalitarian opposite, and this is a lot easier to do when an appealing emotional magnet will pull the hearts of the students into the very midst of the controversy. Elian, his dolphins, and his fight to remain out of the clutches of the Castro Government fits the bill nicely.

And of course, President Bill Clinton's desire, expressed through the ruling of Attorney General Janet Reno, to send Elian immediately back to Cuba, has set up a court battle that allows us to explore many important dimensions of Federal Law, and through it, the workings of our own democracy, including the principles of legislative intent, judicial review, and constitutional checks and balances.

You can get to the core meaning of democracy through this situation more cleanly, directly, and compellingly than you could have ever hoped for through any text book or abstract discussion. There is nothing abstract about this situation. A group of Cubans take to a small boat to flee from a totalitarian police state. A shipwreck occurs and most of them drown. Before Elian's mother slips beneath the waters she instructs Elian to pray to God for his protection. And according to Elian, who clings to an inner tube for nearly three days, circling dolphins keep him company and guard him from shark attack until he is rescued by two fisherman who pluck him out of the water and rush him to dry ground in the United States of America. But Castro wants Elian back, and the Clinton administration says OK. Elian's stateside family fights back believing that Elian would be better off in a free country. And so it is that the Clinton Administration, a.k.a. the INS, a.k.a. the U.S. Justice Department vs. Elian Gonzalez in U.S. Federal Court where all the pertinent issues can be brought to light and examined in an orderly fashion.

And there is every indication that this could be a long multi-stage learning experience for everyone. If the courts rule that Elian does not have any rights under the law to apply for asylum, that decision would be appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If Elian loses at that level, the U.S. Congress will immediately take up the issue in the form of various citizenship proposals that have so far been introduced. If Elian wins the first battle at the district court level, or on appeal, securing his right to apply for asylum, the Attorney General is poised to deny that application, setting the stage for another court battle that will again be taken all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If Elian loses that court battle, the issue will end up before the U.S. Congress. Thus there should be plenty of opportunity to harvest many bushel baskets of democratic enlightenment from this situation.

This is really an amazing juxtaposition of events, which has all the earmarks of being divinely inspired by a Creator God who wants his children to come up a level in their understanding of how valuable and precious is this jewel of freedom that he has placed in the hands of the citizens of the United States of America. Some people may be repulsed by that idea. Some people will embrace that idea with a fervent passion. No matter. It is the emotional intensity that will bring the attention of the students into sharp focus upon key principles. The following article, "Elian and the Law", represents a significant piece of legal research in this area, taking you step by step through that portion of the U.S. Code that is at issue in terms of whether or not Elian has the right to apply for asylum. And it is of course the more relevant and useful because it makes use of online resources, specifically the U.S. Code at Cornell. All the relevant links are there, and the discussion brings out the various points of principle that make up for a deep understanding and appreciation of American democracy. I commend it to you as a very good starting point for the development of a curriculum component that will serve the educational needs of your students in a profoundly important area. America does not belong simply to the current generation, or just to all of the citizens living at this moment in time, but to all those who have gone before, and all those who will come after.

Those of us who are alive are the stewards both for the past and the future. It is our highest responsbility therefore to ensure that those who make the laws, and the set the policies for the nation, are those who are properly equipped in a moral sense, and in possession of the requisite knowledge to make the best decisions.

In this regard, placing the establishment of national policy in the hands of a deliberative legislature whose members are elected by the people strikes the best balance between a government that is by the people in the present tense, and for the people, in terms of the past and the future.

In one of January's Fireside Briefs, China Trade, A Deal With the Devil we mentioned a statement made by Presidential Candidate George W. Bush during the Michigan Republican Presidential Debate on January 10, 2000, in which he made a good case against trade with Communist Cuba. He was not asked about this directly. He was asked about the situation of Elian Gonzalez, the six-year boy who was rescued from the Atlantic Ocean after the boat he and his mother, and others, were riding to freedom in, sank. Since the discussion was in the general direction of Cuba, he took that opportunity to make a statement against trade with Communist Cuba.

Now, this statement was notable because it was thick and pungently impregnated with the incense of irony, which is the lattice-like pattern of deeply penetrating and poignant contradictions within the personality of the speaker. This is so, inasmuch as candidate Bush enthusiastically supports trade with Communist China, and he reiterated that support, even though his statement concerning Communist Cuba contains all the essential principles necessary to make the case against trade with Communist China as well.

For the record then, here is the exchange on the issue of trade with communist nations between Candidate Bush, and Candidate Bauer (Michigan Republican Presidential Debate, Grand Rapids, MI, 01/10/2000):

BUSH: I do. I agree with my colleagues that [Elian's father] ought to be brought to the United States, given a whiff of freedom, so he can see how wonderful our country is.

I want to say something about Cuba in our hemisphere. There's some folks in our country who believe we ought to trade with Cuba. I don't. I think that would be wrongheaded. I think it'd be a mistake.

Capital that goes into Cuba will be used by the Fidel Castro government to prop itself up. There is a commission-type system in Cuba. Dollars invested will be dollars that will end up supporting this totalitarian regime. It's in our best interests for us to promote freedom in the island right off the coast of Florida. It's in our best interest to keep the pressure on Fidel Castro, until he allows free elections, free press and free the prisoners in that island.

And for those Americans who believe that trade with Cuba will cause Castro to become less totalitarian, in my judgment, are naive and wrong.

BAUER: Governor, you just made the case for withdrawing Most Favored Nation status from China.

BUSH: I did not.

BAUER: Everything that you just said about Cuba applies to China.

BUSH: Let me answer that. Let me answer that.

BAUER: Governor, one-third of the trade with China is with companies controlled by the People's Liberation Army.

BUSH: May I answer that please?

BUSH: There is a huge difference, a huge difference between trading with an entrepreneurial class, like that which is growing in CHINA, and allowing a Fidel Castro government to skim capital moneys off the top of capital investment.

BAUER: You know that and I know that [re: enterprises controlled by the PLA, editor]. Tell the people rotting in the prisons of China...

BUSH: There's a huge difference.

BAUER: ... that there's any difference between Castro's Cuba and communist China. There is none.

BUSH: Wait a minute...

BAUER: So trade with the People's Liberation Army is OK?

BUSH: Gary...

BAUER: Sir, they are using that money...

BUSH: Let me say this: If we turn our back on the entrepreneurial class that has taken wing in CHINA, we're making a huge mistake. If we turn our back on those that have gotten a whiff of freedom, as a result of the marketplace taking hold, we're making a big mistake.

BAUER: ... for a massive arms build-up that our sons will have to deal with down the road. You can't be tough...

BUSH: We're making a big mistake—we're making a big...

BAUER: You can't be tough on China...

BUSH: No, it's not.

BAUER: You can't be tough on China...

BUSH: I'm talking about the entrepreneurial class that is growing in the country of CHINA.

It appears that Mr. Bush is under the impression that the billions of dollars of hard currency earned by China through the sale of its imports in the United States, ends up only in the bank accounts of "entrepreneurs." If Mr. Bush actually believes that, he has been misinformed.

In terms of those export firms run directly by the Communist Chinese military, those bank accounts are controlled directly by the Communist Chinese military. Who else would control them?

In terms of those corporate activities in China which could fit into the category of "enterpeneurial", run perhaps by private persons for the purpose of earning private profits, Mr. Bush would have us believe that the Communist Chinese government hasn't figured out a way to get its share of those profits, as if there isn't a word in the Chinese language that serves to describe the principle of "taxation." Every bureaucrat on earth knows what a tax is. Because it describes the very life line of the government. As new pools of wealth spring up, the bureaucrats immediately dip in their soda straws. China is no different in this regard. For example, in a speech before Communist China's "National Legislature", (which contains no representatives elected by the people in free, fair and open elections), on March 5, 2000, China's Premier, Zhu Rongji, was reported by the Associated Press to have used the word "taxes" in his speech, as follows:

If a sparkling new spring gushes out of the parched ground, all of the scranwy creatures from miles around will move towards it and try to drink from it. The same is true for the veritable river of U.S. Currency that is flowing into Red China as a result of U.S. China trade.

Every bureaucrat that runs one facet or another of China's military has a wish list as long as your right arm in terms of technology they would like to purchase on the open market to strengthen their own internal development programs. And the list is always ten times longer than the amount of money available to purchase them. This is simply human nature. One example would be computer controlled five-axis machine tools. You can never have enough of these for making the intricate parts that go into hi-tech missile systems. If you have a production line set up to produce missiles in quantities that can effect the balance of power in the Taiwan straights, you would need dozens of such machines working 24 hours a day for a period of years. But those machines cost millions of U.S. dollars. The point here is that the government of Communist China cannot simply turn on the printing presses to produce enough of their national currency to buy what they need. That currency is not accepted in international transactions. If the Communists want those machines, they must pay for them with a negotiable currency, which is to say, a currency that holds it value, a currency that is accepted without restriction in every part of the international trading system, like U.S. Dollars, or the Japanese Yen, or the German Deutschmark. And that hard currency can only be earned through exporting products that other nations will buy, and pay for, in hard currency.

Prior to the inauguration of U.S. Trade with Communist China, their hard currency reserves were tiny by international standards. Because of the shear volume of that trade now, they are becoming wealthy in terms of hard currency. Where before they could afford to buy maybe one of those milling machines a year, now can they can buy ten or twenty. The more of these machines you have operating, the more precision parts you can produce, and the quicker you can build a larger and larger inventory of missiles and other hi-tech weapons that are guaranteed to take American lives when the time comes for us to stand in defense of the freedom of Taiwan.

Therefore, trade with Commuinst China brings us closer to the day the communist military will try to take the island of Taiwan by force.

Now, because we are committed to defend Taiwan, our military forces will go in and take care of business. But our soldiers, sailors and airmen, will face an enemy made much stronger by this mindless movement by American business to make profits, even though those profits will be stained by gallons of American blood.

There is a maxim associated with the American Democratic Ideal, which holds as self-evident the proposition that it is peculiarly out of character for our Commander and Chief to advocate policies that will increase casualities among our soldiers, sailors, and airman, in the event of a conflict with China over the freedom of Taiwan, a conflict which appears to be inevitable.

The Communist Chinese have said themsleves that the conflict is inevitable. They have said that they will take that Island by force. But the lust of profits is so intense, that American business keeps their eyes willfully closed to what's on the horizon, just so they can keep their hand in the cookie jar until the last possible moment.

Shameful is a word the smells like a rose when compared to what is most apt in this situation. It is the spirit of betrayal of the principle of liberty itself. But it is more grotesque than that. These business interests are consciously setting aside the value of American blood, in exchange for the dazzling radiance of those wallet-fattening profits which have totally captured their imaginations to the point of an obsession.

The primary problem is as it has always been, one of rebellion. People find themselves embodied on planet earth because of the stain of rebellion that they have refused, over millions of years, to wash out of their garments. The China trade issue can really be understood only within the context of this objective fact. And in this respect, if the purpose of life were understood, trade with a communist nation would be avoided at all costs. But in all honesty, it cannot be said that this trade proceeds on the basis of ignorance. It proceeds on the basis of a deep affinity for the victory of the rebellion. For who can argue with the fact that those businessmen who push for China trade are out to prove that the acumulation of dollars is far more valuable than an allegiance to principle?

The Children of God embody on this planet for one reason. It is to overcome the stain of rebellion. This means that rebellion must be replaced with devotion to God's plan and purpose. All of the energies of the heavenly host are directed to this end. All of the energy that God pours into this biosphere is to this end. Therefore, if you take on the one hand that the purpose of God is to move his rebellious children into the divine laundrymat (The Path of Initiation), what could be more contrary to the purposes of God than to establish insitutions that are based on the premise that God does not exist, which is the basis of all Commuinst Doctrine?

And what then comes closer to a stand in oppostion to God's plan than for Capitalists to funnel the wealth of God's Children into the treasurey of the Communist Beast?

Isn't it obvious then that those who are the core supporters of Communism, who feel the least inhibition in regards to the pouring of money into the institution building programs of the Communist Beast, are those who are stained with the most indelible streaks of rebellion. In other words they feel the most comfortable when they can be doing something that the hosts of heaven detest. Perhaps detest is not really the right word. Let us say, that they feel the most comfortable in doing that which is most likely to set the purposes of God back ten steps for every step that his children take forward on their own.

The bottomline in this regard is that trade with Communist China delays the day of victory of God's Purpose and Plan for his children in America, and thereby, pushes that day of victory back for the planet, for if America does not come into alignment with the plan of God first, to set the example for the earth as a whole, there is no possiblity for any victory for God's children anywhere. Because, if America fails in her mission, she will be like a rose bud that never had the chance to blossom, having been overrun by a horde of aphids, sapping all of her vital power into a million little pockets of greed, inflicting a pre-mature death upn the branch before she could release her fragrance of spiritual victory to the world.

Having not that fragrance of spiritual victory which only America can bring forth, everywhere, the children of God will again be yoked to their tyrant kings as in the dark ages of old.

What are these business people trying to do? Their intent is to merge the circulatory systems of the Anti-God Beast of Communism, and the circulatory system of the Anti-God Beast of Capitalism. And in this manner set back by centuries the day when billions of people could find the Path of Initiation, earn back their divine estate and achieve thereby their eternal freedom in the glory of God Reality.

Make no mistake about it. We are not for Capitalism, which is economic activity without God-Conscience and unfettered by law. Capitalism is economic activity framed only by the desire of the captains of industry to harness the creative power of the masses in their schemes to acquire power, and more power. There is a nexus between the Captains of Communism, and the Captains of Capitalism, and this describes one dimension of it.

It is the Captains of Capitalism and the Captains of Communism who promote China trade, not the people. Who among those who can be classified as the common man, would deem it fair and just for Americans who have a thousand year history of economic development within the framework of steady democratic gains, to compete with a work force held in bondage, who are paid 25 cents an hour. There isn't one. No not one. The Capitalists literally lust after such a work force. And in this you have another dimension of that nexus between Capitalism and Communism.

Capitalism at its root is about fear, a fear that comes from a complete and absolute spiritual emptiness, where their is no divine balance against the products of the human imagination, where fear that takes on form, an appearance, in an endless array of masks, and caricatures for every point on the 360 degree circle of the human imagination. Fear of poverty, fear of lack, fear of powerlessness, a fear of being one among the masses, a fear that takes on a billion faces at once. Instead of going to God to guarentee an abundance of every good and perfect thing, they build mountains of cash, and worship before that holy mountain. To get those mountains of cash they walk all over every possible principle, including the manipulation of the resevoirs of wealth created by the hard work of the people,for the creation of greater piles of wealth, a gain for their empty souls, a greater and greater solace before the ominiponence of wealth they have gathered into their own hands.

Yes, the Capitalists are as gods in their own universe of greed, and they have no need for any divine God, and that describes another important dimension of the nexus that exists between the forces of Communism, and the forces of Capitalism. There share this spiritual emptiness, this passionate rejection of the existence of God and the relevence of God, when it comes to fulfilling their personal needs.

There is a distinct difference between Capitalism and the Free Enterprise System. And you can see these differences in sharp relief within the context of the U.S. Chine Trade debate.

With Capitalism the operative principle is greed driven by a fear that is derived from a spiritual emptiness. Greed and fear are products of the flawed emotional nature of mankind in a state of rebellion against God. That is why Capitalists do not resonate with principle. They resonate to the numerical level of currency in their bank accounts.

The Free Enterprise System on the other hand is about Freedom. Make note of this. Freedom is a principle. That's right. It is not a product of a flawed emotional nature in a state of rebellion against God. No, that describes slavery, which was the common condition of mankind up to the time of the appearance of Christ who came with a message, that finally took root in the reformation, that freedom was the condition that God desired for man, and that desire took precedent over every human desire to enslave his fellowman. Freedom, as a principle, describes a way of life that is mandated by the Divine Will. Therefore, freedom is framed by the purposes and plans of God, and those responsibilities, obligations, and duties set forth in the plan are faithfully executed by the people according to the level of gratitude in the people's collective heart.

Therefore, the Free Enterprise System was not set up by the Divine Will as a device for a few people to gather great mountains of cash, for the purpose of using that cash as power, to lord it over the common man, and to wed the common man, through the merging of economic circultatory systems, to outright systems of slavery which Communist China represents.

The Free Enterprise System is first and foremost the foundation for the Path of Initiation. What does that mean? It means that it represents a primary stage for the ultimate reunion of the soul with God. It is both preparatory and foundational for the final rocket launch into the arms of the living God.

When the Path of Initiation is understood as that process which brings about the transformation of man, raising him from a condition of ignorance, and into a condition of divine illumination, it is clear that the latter half of the process requires a firm foundation, and it is the free-enterprise system that provides that foundation.

The soul begins the process anchored to a physical body, within a particular society and culture, where it has many lessons to learn, choices to make, and tests to pass, on its journey to becoming a productive and useful member of that society. From the beginning, the soul is being asked to conform itself to the society's best definitions of virtue within its chosen profession. As the soul succeeds in this, the soul is passing its preliminary tests on the Path of Initiation.

This activity within the Free Enterprise System is designed to establish a central core of order and discipline, a preliminary base of self-mastery, self-control, self-discipline, that has constructive characteristics in terms of contributing to the stability, prosperity, and general improvement of the society in which the soul is currently living. This central core is necessary as a base upon which the latter part of the path can be built, for the soul on the Path of Initiation, must remain integrated with the society in a productive manner. The development of talents, and the ability to act constructively in relationship to other people, both build the essential foundation of self-worth without which you cannot approach God. Many dimensions of life contribute to this foundation of self-worth including, family, profession, and citizenship.

Remember the whole idea of the Path of Initiation is to reunite the soul with God, and for that reunion to take place the soul must approach God, in terms of taking steps in God's direction. Without self-worth, the soul can never be pursuaded to take a step towards God. If the soul has no self-worth, it will surely takes steps, but they will be away from God, or at oblique angles, never a direct approach. So you can see that a good education, and a good job is absolutely essential. And for masses of people to start making progress on the Path of Initiation, you need an abundance of educational opportunities, and an abundance of job opportunities.

Technological developments are opportunity matrices released by God to accomodate the desire of more and more souls to make progress on the Path of Initiation. These developments provide increasing numbers of souls the opportunity to bring themselves into alignment with useful and productive patterns of activity which comprise the preliminary steps on the Path of Initiation.

It is important to understand that it is unlawful to export these matrices of technology to nations comprised of people who have not made the preliminary sacrafices in terms of gaining their liberty. To transfer this technology prematurely is to trap the people into a karma producing situation in which they they will use the technology to serves the needs of the rebellious ego, and not the purposes of God, which will result in an increase surfeiting of the soul into the labrynth of materialism at best, and at worst, will propell them into a situation in which that technology will be used to destroy the nation's who stand for liberty and the success of God's plan. It is unlawful to transfer any technology to a communist nation no matter what the rationale, no matter what the use.

And make no mistake about it. Sublimating materialistic desires to the greater cause of liberty is one of the most significant testing categories the soul must face, and which the soul must pass before it can make progress to the next level of instruction and initiation. And in this regard, the decision on the part of Americans to buy products produced in Communist China is a test on the Path of Initiation, and it is a test that millions of Americans are failing. This is worth looking at very closely.

The goal of the Path of Initiation is reunion with God, a reunion that brings about the fusion of the soul with the fulness of its divine identity, an indentity based on principles of spiritual power and glory within the context of God's overall omniscience and omnipotence.

Now, the most fundamental attribute of the divine identity of every soul is the capacity to perceive the totality of God's Glory, and live within a constant sense of awe and gratitude. Contact with this aspect of identity is reserved for those who passed the preliminary tests which have proven and validated the soul's capacity to hold fast to divine principle in face of powerful temptations to abandon those principles.

Therefore, as God is the author of our liberties, one key test on the Path of Initiation has to do with the capacity of the soul to sacrafice desires that are anathema to the principle of liberty itself. Whenever a person has a choice to buy a product made in Communist China, or not to buy it, this is an important test on the Path of Initiation. What is more important to the soul? Does the soul hold as its highest priority the fulfillment of this desire to have this particular material item? Or does the soul hold as its highest priority the desire to champion God's plan, and in so doing in this case, refuse to participate in feeding wealth into the coffers of the Communist government in China, wealth that the Communists will surely use to strengthen the ability of the Communist Party to stand against the deisre of the people for freedom and democracy?

If a soul cannot pass this preliminary test, it will not be able to move forward on the Path to ultimate reunion.

Therefore, the effort to intertwine the economic circuclatory systems of the American Free Enterprise System with the economic circulatory system of a communist nation is at its core an effort by rebels against God to deny to God's Children an opportunity to make forward movement on the Path of Initiation. As more and more jobs become dependent upon that trade, as more and more American paychecks are derived from that trade, which go to support family, and community, there will be more and more of a temptation to rationalize as right and useful that which is actually holding back the progress of God's Children overall.

Therefore, it becomes clear, that God's sponsorship for the Path of Intiation for the people of America, must be reduced in proportion to the people's stubborn refusal to recognize the value of the opportunity that God has placed in their hands. Remember that America has freedom only because God desires it, and there have been enough people in our historical tradition whose hearts have resonated with that desire, to provide God with a reason to believe that the investment he makes everyday in this nation will someday pay off. It is important to understand that the level of intercession required to maintain freedom is astronomically greater than the level of devotion to liberty that a relatively small number of Americans have have manifested over the centuries. Not many, certainly not in terms of masses, but enough have given their "drop" of devotion, and God has provided a Niagra Falls of support. If the people of America continue on this path of wedding the circulatory system of their nation into that of the largest communist nation on the earth, the populations of America will be shocked to say the least at how fast the daylight of freedom and opportunity turns back into the midnight of dictatorship and slavery which was all too common nearly everywhere on earth only 200 years ago.

Messenger of God? Elian Gonzalez has divine status for some

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - (AP) - In ''The Boy of the Dolphins,'' a Cuban painter depicts Elian Gonzalez swaddled, like the baby Moses, in a blue blanket and nestled inside an inner tube. Three dolphins surround him as the hand of God manipulates puppet strings that lead the child away from a red background symbolizing communism.

The painting is based on a story, reportedly told by Elian, that dolphins swam around his inner tube and protected him while he drifted for two days in the waters off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

''I ... think that it has been a miracle from God that this boy was rescued alive and that dolphins, like Elian himself says, helped the situation,'' artist Alexis Blanco said. ''Elian, for me, is like a messenger that announces the end of the communist dictatorship (in Cuba).''

Talk of fate and destiny swirls around the 6-year-old Cuban boy who has been embroiled in an international custody battle that unfolds daily before television cameras.

Some Cuban Americans revere him as a divine messenger, believing it is God's plan for Elian to remain in the United States. At least one sociologist contends that Elian's divine image is simply political manipulation by those who want to keep him in Miami.

The circumstances surrounding Elian's sea voyage provoke talk of divine intervention. His mother set her only son adrift to save him while she was among 11 refugees who drowned. Elian was found on Thanksgiving by two fishermen.

One of them, Donato Dalrymple, thinks fate took him to the sea that day, since it was his first time fishing. Dalrymple, who saw mahi mahi … not porpoises -- near Elian nonetheless believes the dolphin story.

''I would like to believe that God used the dolphins as an instrument to keep him safe in that water,'' Dalrymple said.

Elian also spoke of seeing an angel out at sea, according to Dalrymple and Robert Curbelo, a friend of the Gonzalez family.

''I believe that the guardian angel and God were helping him through those rough times when he was by himself,'' Curbelo said. ''Little boys who are 6 years old don't lie and they don't invent things like that. There are too many factors here not to believe.''

One unconfirmed story circulating through Miami's Cuban community has Cuban President Fidel Castro consulting a santero, a priest in the Afro-Cuban religion Santeria, which melds elements of Catholicism and West African spiritualism and sometimes calls for animal sacrifices. The santero told Castro his future depends on Elian, and if the child stays in Florida, Castro's regime will fall. If Elian returns to Cuba, the story goes, Castro will remain in power forever.

''I think that's why Castro's making such a big deal about one little boy when he's let thousands die in the water,'' Curbelo said.

Elian is pictured holding a baby Jesus in one poster that is often seen at demonstrations and news conferences.

''Elian is a prodigy of God,'' said 78-year-old Mariana Suarez, who joined the demonstration last week outside the home where Elian met with his Cuban grandmothers. ''God brought him to this country. I think he should stay here.''

Many Cuban Americans are eager to believe the mystical aspects of the Elian saga because they have been waiting more than 40 years for an end to Fidel Castro's regime, said Max Castro, a sociologist and researcher at the University of Miami's North-South Center.

''They're looking for divine intervention. This could be an announcement, some kind of sign,'' he said. ''It's an episode of collective delusion ... but there's a real belief in some people.''

On the issue of Kosovo, you neglect to consider the fact that people can do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Didn't Abe Lincoln illustrate that principle when someone complained about the poltical ambitions of his Secretary of War? That is the case with Bill Clinton and Kosovo.

Just because Clinton did the right thing in terms of deploying American Air Power to drive the Serbian Army Out of Kosovo, it doesn't mean Clinton was driven by right principle. He wanted a badge of honor that would distract people from the many badges of infamy he already wears. So he got one.

Putting Clinton aside, it was a righteous and noble cause to secure the right of the people of Kosovo to live free from the fear of Serbian terror day in and day out. The fact that American treasure was spent in that way, well, in the courts of Heaven, that was considered a good investment, though it will not count a wit against the judgement of Bill Clinton's soul, which carries the weight of the death of untold millions of innocent children who will die because he opened the door for the abortion death drug RU-486 to enter into this nation.

When you address the issue of Kosovo you need to make a concerted effort to separate out your distaste for Bill Clinton because it is clear that your distaste for him is clouding your otherwise sound judgement on an important foreign policy issue.
